I've been trying to establish some new good habits in my life. One of those is a daily bike ride. I enjoy a bike ride over running and even walking, but when the weather turns colder I'll have to find another activity.
I recently read a few excerpts from Charles Duhigg's The Power of Habit and there are several lists to follow. One is a list of Daily Habits and another is a list of Weekly Habits.
Under the list of Daily, I'm up to 9 1/2 out of 10. I'd say that's pretty good. Under the list of Weekly, I'm sorely lagging behind. I'll write about a few of those at another time, since some items on the list are pretty interesting. I say 9 1/2 because I'm still working on one of them. One item is "challenge yourself". Lately I have been challenging myself every day, but I still don't feel like it's a habit. It's a challenge riding my bike faster and making it through my entire exercise workout some days, but I think we need to challenge ourselves more with the mind than our bodies sometimes.
I like solving problems and I think that can be very challenging sometimes. Working with clients, colleagues, your boss, family, struggling with time, available resources - all of which adds to the challenge, but it also adds to the fun. I don't encourage creating problems, but being challenged helps us learn and grow stronger. Which I'm all for!
What challenges you everyday and is that one of your good habits?
