I'm probably like most of you who have a furry companion. We have two dogs, Mario and Jessie, that we adore - they are part of our family. We can't imagine a life without either of them. They bring us so much joy and they love us unconditionally. We would do just about anything for them so when my husband noticed blood and a gash on Mario's side this morning, we were concerned. At first, we thought it was just a surface scratch like so many he has had before. But after closer inspection, it was much deeper than we first thought. I called the Vet and they said they would work us in and to come as soon as we could. Mario thinks he likes riding in the car, until he gets in the car. He pants, drools, whines, paces, and moans almost the entire time and then it doesn't stop even when we arrive. A trip to the Vet's is very stressful for all of us.
We believe it is our responsibility to make sure our dogs are well taken care of - food, medical needs, toys, safety, and protection. We also believe in adopting rescue animals instead of purchasing them from a pet shop. We believe in spaying and neutering so there are fewer dogs and cats that are neglected, abused, kept in shelters and even euthanized. We care deeply for our dogs and wish that every dog, cat, horse and other companion animals are well taken care of.
There are many good animal rescue and animal welfare nonprofits out there - more than I even thought possible based on my Facebook feed. I have many friends that follow these organizations across the country. I hope you'll find one that you can support either with a donation or volunteering. These nonprofits need your help and the vast majority of them are doing great work and will be good stewards of your money. My personal favorites are RedRover, Best Friends Animal Society, and Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue. Please donate and tell me what animal nonprofits you support!
